Every night we go on a night walk. And every night we would find another creepy crawlie. One night I found a millipede. I named her Squiggley. She was very tickly when she crawled from my hand to hand.

The next dark night we found a cricket. It was as big as a ruler and related to the lobster family.

The scariest night animal I saw was a big and hairy tarantula. It had made itself a nest on a type of tree.

The best camauflaged creature was a wonderful and surprisingly strong stick insect.

There were social spiders. They were yellow which was surprising and they were as small as a pencil lead. They live in colonies of thousands and hunt together and share their food.

WOW! I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THERE ARE MORE THAN 9000000 DIFFERENT KINDS OF INSECTS THAT WE HAVE GIVEN A NAME TO SO FAR, BUT THE ONES YOU HAVE SEEN SEEM TO BE THE MOST INTERESTING! THAT CRICKET MUST HAVE BEEN AMAZING IT MUST MAKE A LOT OF NOISE WHEN IT ‘SINGS’.

That makes you much braver than me. Rosie has a stuffed tarantula in a box frame on her desk and I find that quite scary enough!

Hi Emily, You are special. Not many people can cope with all those creepy crawlies but you have done amazingly. I do think that “Squiggly” was really cute, even if all those legs were a bit “ticklish” on the hands.I never knew that Crickets were related to Lobsters, but I can see the likeness. (or is it just this type of cricket that is related to lobsters?) Keep it coming………I’m loving it all. xxx Grandpa

Oh my goodness and I thought I was being brave at forest school with the bugs. They are massive!! How brave of you to pick them up. They must feel so strange on your hand!
